I'm moving my 1000s to France - and your advice is needed....

Hello fellow Guzzi folk,
I'm in the rather lucky position of having a 1000s in London, and also a house in the French Pyrenees.
I've toured and raced it in the past, but work commitments mean that it sits out on the road here in London, and gets used infrequently, so I'm thinking of moving it to it's own heated workshop in the French house so that on holidays I can use it for blatting around the mountains when the mood takes me. The idea of flying up through the narrow valleys with the Lafranconis booming is rather appealing!
The problem is - I have no idea about the logistics of how to go about registering, MOT'ing and taxing it over there, and sorting out insurance for it, etc.
I'm hoping that someone on this forum has gone through the process in the past and can provide some advice.
I noticed that Andre is based in the Cevennes area of France - so he may be able to help. BTW Andre - fantastic looking bike! You mentioned doing some trackdays and things on it - would that be in France as well? If you can help I'd love to have some information about that too!
I'm not sure of the etiquette for these postings, so if anyone wants to contact me offline, rather than through this forum please contact me andrew_weiss@yahoo.com.
thanks in advance, Andrew.

Hi Andrew, yep Andre lives in France and has raced his awesome machine out there...right up your street! You can send Andre a message through the site...

Additionally, on the forum (www.guzzista.com/forum) there is a member called "chrisa" who lives in France and I think he went through the process too...if you haven't you should register on the forum (use the same username) and post a message.

Regards

Joe

Hi there,
I lived in the south of France until 2007 and know people that imported bikes from the UK.
You will need a 'certificate de conformite' which essentialy tells the French authorities the technical details of the bike...you then take this to a local office of Transport ( cannot remeber the exact name of the bureau involved) they tick the boxes they need to tick and that is it.

I would do as much from this end as possible...the aforementioned certificate should be easily available from Moto Guzzi.

MOT not necessary in France for bikes BUT bikes are meant to be limited to 100 BHP....obviously most people un restrict the bikes once the paperwork has been done.

Despite the fact that there are no MOTs, the police do sometimes check the loudness of exhausts...fixed penalty but thats about it.

I remember seeing a Guzzi dealer ..i think it was outside of Lourdes...but it may have been Biarritz.

try looking at anglo info .com there will be more up to date info/forums.

A bientot.

Chris

Nice one Chris. I didn't know bikes are limited to 100bhp in France... Do you find this valuable?
