Europe Tour - July / Aug 08 - ya commin?
Feb 18 2008, 12:30 AM EST Hi Guzzisti Well we (my partner Mei and I) are comming to the UK from our home in New Zealand (yes we're bloody Kiwis) on or about the 12th July 08. When we arrive in the UK we will collect our new (2nd Hand) Guzzi (prob a cali) and depart UK on around 16th July, traveling to and around Europe following the route (more or less) shown on my "europe tour" map in my google site http://maps.google.com/maps/user?uid=100734854224661970479&hl=en or via my home page http://www.youtube.com/user/lloydrobison ie route is UK to France (via eurotunnel), to NE Spainish border, Madrid, Porto Portugal, Lisbon, Cadiz, southern Spain, SW border of France, southern france to NW border of Italy, Pisa, Florence, Rome, Venice, Austria, Switzerland, Germany, France UK. returning to UK on the 12/13th August. The tour is about 5000km in 21 days, the intent is to do 3-400km some days and none on others ie 6/7 days of no riding 14 days doing 3-400 easy a? anyone want to join us? anyone have a suitable bike they wanna sell / ( lend? yeah right) 2 out of 2 found this valuable. Feb 18 2008, 6:32 PM EST Hey Luigi, sounds like an absolutely amazing journey! If you like roman buildings you gotta go to Segovia and to Merida in Spain! I've got this new scheme in mind called GPS (Guzzista PaAthfinder Scheme) whereby if guzzisti are travelling around, they can have local Guzzisti on hand to assist...always useful to now where the best campsites are, cheapest fuel...that kind of thing...that way I figure that the worldwide network of Moto Guzzi fans can get together and get the best out of wherever you go...what do you think? Wanna be guinea pigs? Joe 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

RE: Europe Tour - July / Aug 08 - ya commin?
Feb 27 2008, 11:57 PM EST Well the plane tickets are booked we arrive UK Sat July 12th, depart UK Wed Aug 13th which means i've extended the riding time by a few days. Plan is now to catch the portsmouth bilbao ferry on the 14th at 13:15pm arrive Bilbao 15th July 17:15pm. Ride the trip as per amended plan (now missing out the travelling south leg from calais to bilbao via france). We will now try and get around returning to UK via eurotunnel on the Sunday 10th August. That means we now have 26 days to do 7000km. My plan is 5 no riding days (ie rome, Corduba, Florence, Venice, etc) 4/5 x 500+km days with 16 <300km days easy a. All i need now is some advice on the best routes for bikes. Has anyone seen this website http://www.bestbikingroads.com can anyone give me any tips please? cheers ps if anyone knows of a california for sale in the UK before July - i'm looking for one :o) i am checking ebay and biketrader daily but most of the guzzis seem to be trader sales not private? 2 out of 2 found this valuable. Feb 28 2008, 2:58 AM EST NIce Luigi, we'll keep a look out for a Cali for you and be in touch...what's your budget, and I guess you'll be needing one with some touring kit...If we find one near one of us we'll see if we can get someone to go kick the tyres etc...where you flying in to? We've got a pathfinder in Spain, "Zapa", you can get in touch with him through the forum...send him a pm, and I'm sure he'll be a good point of contact for advice about riding in Spain...places to see, stay, etc. Zapa speaks better English than most of us on the forum and he's a cool guy (1200 Sport rider). I have further contacts in Spain and Italy so will be looking to get some more helpful Pathfinder chaps for you in the near future! Keep in touch! Joe 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

I only live 8km from the French border (60km from Calais) in a coast town called "Oostduinkerke". Are you planning to ride on gps (Garmin) or on maps? If you have a Garmin I can sent you the file through France with a stop at a wonderfull B&B (45€/night and only 15€ for a very nice multi course meal) in the South of france. Just let me know when you folks think you will arrive here (Guy's mobile: +32479680644) Ciao Do you find this valuable? |

Apr 1 2008, 3:54 AM EDT You really are a lucky fellow. I have a dual live: during the week in Luxembourg and in the WE in Belgium. As I saw on your itinerary that you are also going to Luxembourg. Here is a suggestion you can not refuse: If I am able to, I will accompany you upon your arrival in Calais France to Brugge (Bruges) and from their to Luxembourg. I know the road, you only have to follow. Ciao 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

RE: Europe Tour - July / Aug 08 - ya commin?
Apr 5 2008, 4:17 PM EDT Hi, I was talking to a friend who has just returned from Europe after 6 months in the south of France. During their last stay in France they did many road trip, one of which was to Switzerland. They warned me about the road tax in Switzerland. Apparently you must pay the road tax for a full yesr when you cross the border. The tax office is not at the border so you must enter the country and then about 5k's up the road is the tax collection point. SO if you are only passing through Switzerland it can cost a small fortune. This information is only hearsay and you may wish to check with someone who lives there. I would hate to see a fello Guzzi fan get caught with beauraracy. Regards Graeme from OZ. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

RE: Europe Tour - July / Aug 08 - ya commin?
Apr 7 2008, 12:31 PM EDT Regarding Switzerland: Switzerland and Austria have a general tax on motorways. When riding on the motorway and crossing the border you will have to buy a motorway sticker at a 32€ cost price. If you are not using the motorway and only using normal roads, there is no tax to pay. In Austria it is a little different; their you can buy a sticker for the time you are in Austria. Cost price?? 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |
