Steelehorse Classics Griso Fender Eliminator
Have you seen the fender that Moto Guzzi fitted to the Griso? It's revolting, it's the only thing that lets down an otherwise beautiful bike. So I decided to get a tail tidy. After much searching I settled on the one made by Steelhorse Classics. http://steelhorseclassics.com/
So who are Steelhorse Classics?
According to their website Steelhorse Classics is the mid-Atlantic region’s premiere Moto Guzzi and MV Augusta dealership.
They also sell classic motorcycles of numerous brands from the 1940’s through the 1970’s. Steelhorse Classics was established in 2006 after the principal owner, Mike Warner, retired as deputy fire chief for the City of Newport News (Va.) Fire Department after 25 years of service.
I sent an E-Mail to Steelhorse classics to enquire about the tail tidy and had a reply within the hour. When I phoned to place the order I found both Mike and his staff polite and helpful and enjoyed our chat about Guzzi's!
The tail tidy arrived here in th UK within a week, although my wife and kids hid it so they could wrap it up an put it under the Christmas tree!
How much did it cost? $129 +P&P
What do you get?
Three powder coated brackets (one number plate bracket, and two indicator brackets) and an assortment of fixings.
How easy is it to install? It's a doddle and here's how you do it!
First you have to remove the stock fender as follows-
1.Remove the seat.
2.Remove seat lock cover using an 11mm socket.
3.Disconnect the indicator and number plate lamp cables.
4.Remove the indicator assemblies using a 4mm allen key and a 10mm socket.
5.Remove the six allen head bolts and two phillips head screws that hold the fender to the underside of the tail.
6.Remove the fender.
Now fit the Steelhorse Classics Fender Eliminator Kit as follows-
1.Attach the number plate hanger to the underside of the tail using the 11mm bolts.
2.Attach the indicator assemblies to the Steelhorse Classics Indicator brackets. (Left hand indicator has a female connector and right hand indicator has a male connector)
3.Re-connect the indicator cables.
4.Attach the indicator brackets to the underside of the tail using the allen bolts.
5.Test your indicators!
6.Refit the seat lock cover.
7.Refit the seat.
8. Fix your number plate using bolts or adhesive pads.
9.Stand back and admire the new look of your Griso!
How long did it take to fit? Just 45 minutes.
Would I recommend Steelhorse Classics to my friends? You bet I would! Mike, his wife Carol and the staff at Steelhorse Classics are all genuine enthusiasts, they answer E-mails quickly and are happy to chat on the phone. The parts supplied are of the highest quality and the instructions were clear and easy to follow.
I asked Mike if he intended to make a similar kit for the Breva and he said it would all depend on how the Griso kit sold and how much demand there was for such a product. So thanks Mike - The fender eliminator kit has made my bike even more beautiful!
