Dave's fantastic Le Mans MkIThis is a featured page

Well? waddya think? Didn't I tell you it's fantastic?

This is owned by Dave Brogan from Goole in East Yorkshire.

Dave contacted me a little while ago and mentioned that he owned this great machine.

I asked...no, pleaded is probably more accurate...Dave to submit an article so that you guys can all share in this bike's glory too.

The great news is that he is working on it and you'll be able to read about it soon...bookmark this page!

In the meantime, to whet yourappetite, this vid has been uploaded to You Tube and we have kind permission from Dave to add it here...so enjoy, here's the first part...Dave finds his le Mans after some searching...

"First I always wanted a Mk 1, ever since I saw the tests in Motorcycle Sport in the late 70’s but being in my early 20’s then and poor owning a new one was out of the question, so I could only dream. In the early 90’s, having more wealth and two friends with Italian bikes, one with a Ducati Darmah , the other with a Laverda 3C and I was riding a boxer BMW obviously a Mk 1 was needed to complete the trio and so the hunt was on.

Having owned shaft driven bikes in BMW boxer, K series and Honda CX500 models a Mk 1 made even more sense and I would be different from my Italian mounted companions and not get oily with chains.Suddenly, out of nowhere, there it was, an advert in Classic Bike “Moto Guzzi Le Mans Mk 1, an original collectable model, taxed and tested” and it was situated in the North of England, in Preston and my mate, with a big van, said “I’m going there on Saturday, shall we have a look”, I thought “Thank you God” and took milliseconds to reply “might as well then”.

So I rang the number, “Hello I’m ringing about your bike, still got it?” I asked, not trying to sound anxious, “ well yes, but I’ve had lots of calls” came the reply, “can I come to see it “ I said “at the weekend”, “yes” he said, the longest days ever slowly passed before we went. Mr. Tudor was very hospitable, the bike was still there, good but not quite standard, having being painted wrongly but it was all there and was a Mk 1, albeit a late model.

A deal was struck and soon it was winging its way back to Yorkshire, courtesy of my mate, Henry Ford and one of his Transit vans.In my workshop it was obvious that, at some point, it had been lightly restored and someone liked red paint, the wheels being red, which looked wrong. I am a great believer that, generally, the manufactures do their homework and the original spec usually looks right and so back to original it had to go.

Well, once you start, does it ever end?; the seat was wrong as were the rear shocks, someone had tried to polish the rocker box covers and given up, the fork sliders were painted black, I wanted my dream bike from the 70’s like I remembered it from all those years ago and so, it came apart. More to follow. David Brogan"

Well, after Dave sent the first video at the top of the page many were wondering what that Le Mans sounded like...so DAve sent in the second video above! Worth waiting for Dave, fantastic!

Hi Dave, Nice bike. I own a 77 Lemans and a 74 V7 Sport. I am looking for information on the Lemans...I have searched the net with very little luck...Trying to find out how many were built, brought to the USA, etc.
Thanks for posting yours...Steve
