Brooklands CentenaryThis is a featured page

Brooklands is the home of motor racing. The circuit was opened in the early part of the 20th century and is almost as old as motoring itself. It was made famous the world over by its mythical banked curves. The area also boasts an equally strong link to aviation, being one of the earliest airfields. Today the site houses museums catering for both of these interests, and being partial to both, our own Andy took his Griso over to sample the history.

The Brooklands Motorcycle Centenary Meeting

It was dry when I left Portchester with Rich on his XJR1300 and Pete on his newly aquired Dragstar 650. Had a nice run up the A32 mingling with the bikes that were on their way to Thruxton for the BSB meeting. When we got to Guildford it became misty and bloody cold but at least no rain! We had decided on a slow plod up to Brooklands as Petes Dragstar is still restricted to 33BHP. I wasn't very happy to be over taken by a Harley but that was topped by one of those moments where you do a double take. Overtaken by a bloke in an open face lid riding a BMW R100 towing a trailer carrying a wendy house? Bizzare!

There was a bit of a que to get in but once on site we were directed to park on the remaining part of the old banked circuit. Bearing in mind the history of Brooklands I found this a bit of a treat.

There were loads of old bikes to look at in the paddock and at times they were runnig along parts of the circuit. Had a look at the Aircraft and in some of the museum buildings housing some fantastic bikes and cars including the 24ltr Napier Rialton.

Had a wander along the circuit looking at all the bikes and found about a dozzen Guzzi's but had forgotten my Squadra flyers! D'oh! Rolling Eyes

The ride home was in brilliant sun shine and we stopped off at Loomies bikers cafe for a coffee and watched the supersports race on the big screen. Got home 5 minutes before the thunder storm hit Portchester. All in all a great day out!
