Hello, my name is Rod

About Me...

My home town:Mooloolaba

Country I live in:Australia

My Occupation:Sailor

How I found Squadra Guzzista: Google

More about me...
How long have I been riding bikes? 32 years

Why Moto Guzzi? They had a European delivery option in the 80's. I wanted to see Europe and get a new bike. I killed 2 birds with one stone.

How/when I first became interested in Moto Guzzi: 1983. Good deal on a European pick up.

My main type of riding is (competition/pleasure/commute/work): Pleasure

About my Guzzi...

What is it (model/year): 1983 LM III

How long I have owned it: 25 years

Is this my first Moto Guzzi: Yes

Other Guzzis in my stable: LMIII, Sessantacinque GT and a Monza

Modifications I have made and why:
1. Agostini full frame fairing. It was an 80's thing.
2. Rear sets. Agostini fairng makes normal pegs impossible.
3. Steel timing gears. A better idea than the timing chain. The V7 sport had gears but it was replaced for cost reasons only.
4. Better headlight globe. So I can actually see in the dark.

The bike's main purpose is: Nostalgia.

It's quirks: None really. Its in perfect running order.

How it compares with other bikes I've owned: Noisy, uncomfortable, vibrates, handles like it is on rails, pulls like a train, love it.

What it's like to live with: Fair. I had it as my only bike for a long time but it has a real niche. I can't say it is a good all rounder.

What it's like to ride: Great for the first 200km.

My bike's most appealing feature is: White and black contrast.

My bike's best feature is: Handling.

Would I recommend one like it to my best friend?: Depends on what they want it for.

Would I own another, given the chance: I already do.

General Guzzi stuff...
What I think of current Guzzi models: I think the styling leaves a bit to be desired except for the retro models.

If I could, the one I'd buy tomorrow: None at the moment.

My all time favourite Guzzi: 750S

If I were boss at Mandello I would: Release another 1000S variant for all those that want one so desperately. Then use the current fuel injected 750 in a sport bike along the lines of a Monza or Lario.
