Hello, my name is Phil.

About Me...

My home town: Ynysybwl

Country I live in: Wales

My Occupation: Community Environmental Officer

How I found Squadra Guzzista: Looking for info on the Griso 1100

More about me...
How long have I been riding bikes? I started riding again in 2003 after a 20 year break.

Why Moto Guzzi? I always wanted one when I was younger but they were too expensive - Japanese machines were more affordable.

How/when I first became interested in Moto Guzzi: After seeing a V50
Mk111 in full Spada trim in a dealership in Cardiff in 1981. It looked great, but the sound when it started - I was hooked.

My main type of riding is (competition/pleasure/commute/work): Pleasure - riding is like meditation for me.

About my Guzzi...

What is it (model/year): I don't own a bike at the moment - hence my search for information on the Griso 1100; a dealer here has a heavily discounted brand new 2007 model in black hanging round the shop and I've just put a deposit down. It'll be delivered in March 2009.

How long I have owned it: Watch this space.

Is this my first Moto Guzzi: No. My first Guzzi was a 1979 V35 I bought in 2003 to start riding again on; I did some work on it and really enjoyed the bike, but then I saw a V50 Mk111 in full Spada trim... ..so I dealt up. At about the same time I bought a Morini 500, which was also a great machine. I've also owned a Breva 750 but had lots of problems with it so I traded it for a Z750S and then a Versys, which I sold in October last year. I've been saving for another bike, and I think I'm going back to Guzzi.

Other Guzzis in my stable: See above. But they're all gone now...

Modifications I have made and why: The Griso is coming with Stucchi crash bars (after seeing the ones on Dragon Slayer's machine on this site) and a Skidmarx hugger fitted by the dealer. After that, probably a MiVV carbon can and maybe the MG high screen and panniers.

The bike's main purpose is: Relaxation - there are some truly magnificent roads in south and mid Wales and along the border with England. I also enjoy cleaning bikes a lot! Sad...

Its quirks:

How it compares with other bikes I've owned:

What it's like to live with:

What it's like to ride:

My bike's most appealing feature is:

My bike's best feature is:

Would I recommend one like it to my best friend?:

Would I own another, given the chance: Yes.

General Guzzi stuff...
What I think of current Guzzi models: Brilliant. Like nothing else on the road.

If I could, the one I'd buy tomorrow: The Bellagio. I sat on one recently and it fitted like a glove, but is more expensive than the 2007 Griso I'm considering. If I was to win the Lottery: A Ghezzi-Brian Furia Titanium.

My all time favourite Guzzi: V50 Mk111. A great little bike.

If I were boss at Mandello I would: Sort out marketing and spares/accessories supply and customer service.
